How quinsy is treated
A peritonsillar abscess cannot be treated at home. Your ENT specialist may try antibiotics first; if they do not work, the pus is drained to help the area heal. The best treatment depends on how severe the abscess is and how well it responds to antibiotics.
Procedures to treat a quinsy include draining the pus with a syringe and needle, opening the abscess with a scalpel to drain it, or surgically removing the tonsils (acute tonsillectomy), which may be recommended for recurrent peritonsillar abscesses.
